Our Story

NSWEDU.link was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools increasingly relied on online platforms to share information and resources with students, parents, carers, and colleagues.

Many of these platforms generate long, complicated web addresses that are difficult to remember, copy accurately, or write down. This can be especially challenging in classrooms, presentations, printed materials, and communications with families.

NSWEDU.link makes it easy to create short, professional, and relevant links. For example:

While many URL-shortening services are available, obtaining a clear and meaningful custom link can be difficult or may require a paid subscription. Educators already contribute enough of their own time and money to support their students, so NSWEDU.link is provided free of charge to NSW public schools, with no advertising, spam, or hidden fees.

This service is run by educators for fellow educators in NSW public schools. This service is wholly funded by us and anyone kind enough to donate; it is in no way affiliated, supported, or funded by our employer, the NSW Department of Education.

Contribute

NSWEDU.link is independently maintained and provided to NSW public school educators as a free service. Donations help cover the ongoing costs of hosting, development, security, and maintenance, allowing the platform to remain reliable and continue improving.

Sustainability Statement

NSWEDU.link is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its digital services. The platform is delivered through Cloudflare's global network and is intentionally designed to be lightweight, efficient, and free from unnecessary assets, third-party tracking scripts, and excessive data transfers. By reducing the amount of data processed and delivered, we help minimise the energy and infrastructure required to operate the service.

We also encourage educators to use digital tools thoughtfully. Where appropriate, QR codes can reduce the need to print lengthy URLs, while expiry dates should be applied to links that are only required temporarily. Removing outdated links helps keep the platform organised, efficient, and focused on resources that remain useful.

Sustainability is an ongoing responsibility. We will continue to review the design and operation of NSWEDU.link to identify practical opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and minimise its environmental footprint.
