How to use nswedu.link
1. Create an account
Sign up using your @det.nsw.edu.au email address. Select your school from the list and enter your school code. Your school will be set to Pending until an admin verifies your membership. You must accept the Terms of Use to proceed.
2. Create a short link
Once logged in, click + New link on your Control Panel. Enter the short name you would like (e.g. yr10maths), the destination URL you want it to point to, and optionally a note and expiry date. Click Create link and your short link is live immediately at nswedu.link/yr10maths.
3. Share with your school
When creating or editing a link, tick Share with whole school to make the link visible to all verified staff at your school. You must be a verified member of a school for this option to appear. School-wide links appear under the School Links tab for all verified staff at that school.
4. Generate a QR code
Click the QR button on any link card to generate a QR code. You can copy it to your clipboard or download it as a PNG to use on worksheets, posters, or classroom displays. QR scans are tracked separately from direct link clicks.
5. View statistics
Click the Stats button on any link to see visitor counts, device types, and the top countries visitors are coming from.
6. Edit or delete a link
Click Edit to update a link's destination URL, short name, note, expiry date, or school sharing. Click Delete to permanently remove a link — this cannot be undone.
7. Manage your schools
Visit your Profile page to add additional schools. Each school addition goes through the same pending verification process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my school showing as Pending?
All new school memberships start as Pending and require manual verification by an administrator. This usually happens within a few school days. You will still be able to create Personal links while your school is pending — you just won't be able to create School-wide links until verified.
Can I use nswedu.link with a personal email address?
No. nswedu.link is exclusively for NSW Department of Education staff. You must sign up with a @det.nsw.edu.au email address.
What happens when a link expires?
When an expiry date is set, the link is automatically deleted on that date. Anyone visiting the short URL after expiry will see a 404 page. The link's statistics are also removed. If you need the link to continue working, edit it and clear the expiry date before it expires.
Can students use nswedu.link to create short links?
No. nswedu.link is only available to NSW Department of Education staff with a @det.nsw.edu.au email address. Students can visit short links shared by their teachers but cannot create an account.
What is a School Link?
A School Link is a short link that is shared with all verified staff at your school. It appears under the School Links tab for everyone verified at that school, so colleagues can access common resources without having to ask around. Any verified member of the school can edit or delete school links.
Is there a limit on how many links I can create?
There is currently no hard limit on the number of links you can create. We ask that you use the service responsibly and only create links for legitimate educational purposes.
My short link name is already taken — what should I do?
Short link names are unique across the entire platform. Try a variation — for example, add your school initials (e.g. qhps-yr10) to make your link name distinct.
Is nswedu.link affiliated with the NSW Department of Education?
No. nswedu.link is an independent service run by educators in their own time. It is not affiliated with, supported by, or funded by the NSW Department of Education.
I've forgotten my password — what do I do?
nswedu.link does not currently have an automated password reset. Please log a support ticket (click here) and we will reset your password for you outside school hours. Please include your @det.nsw.edu.au email address in the ticket.
